Modular, expandable dental vacuum systems engineered to suit your practice

BaseVac Dental Vacuum Pumps are designed to meet the dental industry’s need for vacuum pumps that are oil free, water free, dry running and quiet. The BaseVac Dental series of products redefines what a dental vacuum system can and should be.

Dry-Vac pumps have not been the industry favorite to date primarily because of the vacuum pump used. Earlier designs used a rotary vane oil free carbon vane pump that failed due to broken or stuck vanes. This type of pump was both hot and noisy. The carbon vane compound had a high percentage of sodium in the mix that would absorb moisture from the air causing them to soften and swell and stick in the vane slots. This normally occurred when the pump was in off mode. On start-up the vanes would not release and slide in and out. The result was imbalance, heat and noise. When the heat dried the vane it would release at full RPM and break when it contacted the pump body.

The Dry-Vac evolved toward the use of Regenerative (side-channel) type blower as a vacuum pump. This pump has the high flow and vacuum required however it had the problem of heat. The regenerative vacuum pump was running at its maximum design point in which the highest heat was produced. When the pump stopped the aluminum rotor would expand with the heat reducing the clearance causing even more heat on start-up. In this case the bearings would fail as the lubrication dried with the heat.

D Series HD Series

Within the BaseVac Dental Line there is a choice; the D-Series uses a Regenerative Vacuum Pump as the vacuum producer. It has unfortunately the same problems just mentioned. It was included because some larger clinics will require a larger continuous volume for which this type of pump works great. A built in cooling fan is used to assist in cooling when the usage rate drops off causing a higher vacuum and higher temperature.

The BaseVac HD-Series is the line’s key innovation and offers the most advantages over existing systems. The heart of the HD-Series is the Becker Vacuum Pump. Made in Germany for 24-hour industrial use, the Becker Model VT Series is the largest selling most popular one and a half and two horsepower oil free vacuum pump in Europe. The pump weighs almost twice as much as its competitor, which creates a quieter, cooler running pump. The carbon vanes are very, very different from earlier rotary vane carbon vane pumps. The Becker vane has no salt in the mix, making them non-hydroscopic. They simply won’t absorb water and stick in the slot. The vanes are self-lubricating and require heat to lubricate therefore working and dealing better as the pump runs hot. A new pump has an intentional rough body. The vanes are designed with a wear-in edge. During the first 500 running hours the wear-in edge carbon is transferred to the pump body with the normal heat of operation. The result is carbon self-lubricating on carbon.

The Becker VT Series pumps have an end vacuum of 27” Hg. The built in adjustable relief valve allows you to set the system vacuum level. A busy clinic can set the vacuum level higher than the user point evacuating the distribution piping to a deep level. This means the system vacuum capacity is much greater. More air out allows for more air in with less fluctuation. Higher vacuum allows for small diameter piping as in older systems. We recommend a 2” header in all systems however the HD-Series will perform well with 1” systems just as easily.

The control panel on all BaseVac Dental Systems is industrial quality CSA Approved. The modular Nema 4 enclosure with easy access drop down hinged door contains a motor starter with built in overload protection and reset functionality, an hour meter, vacuum gauge and reduced voltage transformer for low voltage remote start / stop.

The pump is quiet to start with and even quieter with the use of our closed cell foam panel insulation. The pump frames are sturdy metal blocks designed and pre-drilled for vertical stacking.

We should not forget the bearing design. Unlike the Regenerative D-Series the Becker pump is designed and built with an exceptionally large front bearing to handle the heat and the load. The motor end bearing is pressed into a cast metal end, not aluminum. This means the outer race of the bearing will never spin causing heat, as happens with lightweight aluminum motor end cap.

If its heat we want to cause the carbon to self-lubricate, how do we cool the pump? The Becker VT-Series uses a metal squirrel cage to remove heat to guarantee a long pump life. Our cooling fan is so well made it resembles the squirrel cage impeller in less competitive Dry-Vac pumps.

BaseVac Dental Systems can be purchased with or without our air / water separator. The BaseVac separator is all welded stainless steel construction. Vertical compact size means we want to control how much liquid is in the separator. An automatic control panel receives orders from three separate float switches to first turn the 110-volt pump on if the liquid reaches a pre-set limit. Second to turn the pump off leaving a 2” level of liquid in the tank to keep the pump primed. Last if the liquid rises to a ¾” level an alarm light will turn on and automatically shut down the vacuum pump and drain the tank to the 2” level of liquid. At this point the vacuum pump will automatically restart (approx. 4-5 minutes before the vacuum pump restarts).

The discharge pump has a nylon impeller to handle the toughest of wastewater. The entire lid of the BaseVac Dental air / water separator unclips and comes off for the eventual need for cleaning.

Water Pump

Additionally, an auxiliary inline filter with a clear bowl is supplied to protect the pump from any residual carry over at the pump inlet. The pump has a built in 5 – 7 micron filter. The air exiting the pump as exhaust has been twice filtered at 5 – 7 micron.

The built in silenced blow off valve has an external NPT thread and a supplied 1-½” female PVC pipe adaptor for easy attachment to exhaust piping if required.

We believe the BaseVac Dental HD Series Pumps are the industry’s best choice for performance and fit for new installs and old pump replacement. The next generation prototypes are already on the drawing board to ensure longevity and innovation in your choice to use BaseVac Dental Systems as part of your next dental vacuum system.
